In the previous part of “How to Clean Your Wallpaper” you learned the first 2 steps on the way to clean your wallpapers by yourself. Now we continue with the other things, that need to be done, so that your walls can look as good as freshly painted.
We don’t change wallpapers every couple of months, that is the reason why it’s important for them to look clean and maintained. In the first part you discovered the best way for cleaning and removing stains, with the help of your vacuum cleaner and a special product, called dough.
According to cleaners Hyde Park, you should always test first, before acting. This golden rule applies especially for textured or unique wallpapers and natural coverings like fabric, leather, grass and cork. Those types of wall coverings are very easy to damage, even with water. In order to check if a wallpaper is washable, you will need to try on a hidden spot first. Put a couple drops of mild dish washing liquid in water and use a sponge to dab on the wall. If you notice any darkening of the material or changes or running of the colour, it means the covering shouldn’t be treated with water.
In this situation, you can use a wallpaper dough for cleaning.
Be aware of the fact that dusting might not be enough in some cases. In rooms like the kitchen, wallpapers are exposed more often to steam and grease. You will have to preform a light washing there at least once in two months. Cleaners Hyde Park suggest to put waterproof coverings in those places, so that they can be washed easily. Use a natural sponge and water with dish washing detergent when cleaning. Be careful that the sponge isn’t too soaked, because that may cause loosening of the covering. Begin from the top and finish at the bottom. This way the dirty water, that naturally runs down, won’t leave any streaks. Never scrub too hard or use any abrasive cleaners. Once finished, rinse with a sponge and clean water. Dry with a paper towel.
Now you know the complete procedure to clean the wallpapers in your home by yourself.
