How to Clean Your Wallpaper (Part One)

Posted on January 25, 2012 by in Cleaning, Home Improvement

clean wallpapersWall coverings get dirty with the time and need an occasional cleaning. Since wallpapers are not the most common thing we clean everyday, here are some tips on how to do it the best way possible.

The first step for cleaning a wallpaper is to vacuum it. Cleaners Hyde Park recommend to use a soft brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner, in fact, if the paper has texture or is flocked, that is the only thing you can use for cleaning. Begin from the top and work your way to the bottom. Clean a couple of panels at a time. When noticing a spider web, don’t brush it away, that will lead to a streak on your wall. Lift it with the vacuum instead. If your wall is flat and non-textured, you can maintain it clean with a micro fibre cloth on the end of a long-handled sweeper or broom. Repeat this cleaning procedure at least in two-three months, depending on how dirty your house gets.

There is a special product, called a wallpaper dough. You can buy it form a paint store. According to cleaners Hyde Park it’s designed to remove stains form delicate coverings. Sometimes this kind of coverings can be damaged even by water. This is why you will need to use this special product, when dealing with uncoated wallpaper. Open the container, take some of the dough and roll it into a ball. Use the ball to roll across the wall covering and the dirt must be lifted. When the dough gets dirty, you will need to knead the dirt into the centre, so that a fresh surface will be exposed. Continue with the procedure, when you make sure the dough is clean, otherwise you may damage your wallpaper further.

As you can see, cleaning a wallpaper isn’t the hardest thing to do. Especially if you know the right way to do it. Those were just two of the four steps, that will make your wallpaper look as good as new. The other two you can find in the second part of “How to Clean Your Wallpaper”.
